Boulder City 2

Boulder City sculptures

Boulder City street scape
A cold night (just above freezing) but with the heater in the RV and the comforter we were fine.   Cool in the morning but by the time we got out to walk into Boulder City the clouds were gone and things were heating up to the point where people were out in shirt sleeves.   We really like Boulder City, it was built to house the workers that built the Hoover Dam but seems to have really prospered since.  There are beautiful statues everywhere and very nice houses with great desert landscaping (palms, cacti etc. mixed in with trees and flowering shrubs).   We stopped into a bakery for coffee and croissants and the downtown market to pick up some vegetables.   Lots of motorcycles out – not a surprise I guess.  Boulder City is surrounded by mountains and the ones to the south east have snow on them and provide a great back drop to the city.
On yesterday’s walk we stopped into the Boulder City Hotel which is now a museum, restaurant  and craft mall.  Corinne found a small jewelry shop that specialized in reproductions of jewelry worn by famous actresses in well know movies.  Great fun and most of the pieces sold for between $135 and $400 with most at the lower end (esp. the rings and earrings) .
After the problem with the RV house batteries we ran into a similar problem with the motorcycle.  I couldn’t start it this morning and thought that battery just might be low after the storage.  So we pushed it and it started fine and I went for a little drive to the view point overlooking Lake Mead and around the town to the south to see the views off to the mountains in the south.   Spectacular.   However when I got back the bike wouldn’t start.  So now we have to find a way to hook up with a bike shop that will allow us to do something while we are waiting.  We have to do it in Las Vegas because once we head south west there is little in the way of towns and we need the bike to explore.   We could push it every time we need it but that gets old very quickly.

Boulder City

Corinne at the Winn Hotel Fountain

Graham and the Mirage Fountains
Well here we are in Boulder City - just west of the Hoover Dam.   It started to rain about 9 this am and it is cool - high today will be 49.   Tonight it's forecast to drop to freezing.    But we are happy to be back in home in the RV and getting all the systems set up (water, battery etc.).   Warmer weather predicted for Tuesday so we will be heading to Valley of Fire on either Monday or Tuesday.

We had a great flight down (Corinne was in the window seat and we had a clear view of the mountains and deserts across Utah, Arizona and Nevada as we came into Las Vegas).   We enjoyed our day and a bit in Las Vegas, this time seeing the Fashion Mall, Circus Circus, Winn and Encore resorts  as well as visiting some of the hotels we visited last time.   The Winn and Encore are very classy, much more subdued but luxurious.  Stores included Cartier and other very high end shops.

Anna's Birthday

Anna's birthday party was yesterday and despite Anna and Siobhan being sick with colds we had a great meal and fun opening presents at Siobhan and Matt's.   Reagan and Matt's mom, Janet, were both present.  The kids party planned for Sunday has been postponed as everyone in Anna's playgroup was off Friday with the flu or colds.   Party will be held in two weeks when everyone is better.   Anna's main gift was a monster hand puppet with inter-changeable arms, eyes, ears, hair etc.

Minus 10 days

Just 10 days before we leave for Las Vegas.   Starting to worry about all the things that have to be done before we leave.
